Boys basketball playoffs: Layton Christian rallies to beat Murray in 4A quarters

OREM — No. 1 Layton Christian Academy boys basketball trailed 27-20 at the half, then outscored No. 8 Murray 38-26 after the break to claim a 58-53 win in the 4A quarterfinals Monday at Utah Valley University.

Layton Christian (24-5), which scored 19 points in each of the third and fourth quarters, took the lead for good early in the final frame.

Luka Kulundzic led the Eagles with 16 points and four 3-pointers. Alan Gballou scored 15 points. Otavio Armani added 11 points and two treys, and Tyrin Jones tallied seven points.

LCA shot 30 free throws compared to eight for Murray (18-7).

The Eagles advance to face No. 4 Green Canyon (20-5) in the semifinals at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday.
