Prep basketball roundup: Saunders scores 35, Morgan boys topple unbeaten South Summit
MORGAN — Bracken Saunders poured in 35 points on five 3-pointers and Morgan High boys basketball came back from a 20-point deficit to take down previously undefeated South Summit (16-1, 3-1 Region 12) by a 59-55 score for a region win Friday night.
Kolton Asay added 14 points and two treys for Morgan (7-8, 2-1).
LAYTON 81, FARMINGTON 77 (OT)
LAYTON — Farmington led 39-36 at the half, then Layton forced overtime and completed the comeback with a 10-6 advantage in bonus basketball for the win.
Mekhi Martin led Layton (15-1, 3-0 Region 1) with 17 points and two 3-pointers. KJ Miller tallied 16 points, David Katoa added 15 points and Sam Romer scored 14 points with two treys.
Jayden Haskell scored a game-high 19 points for Farmington (10-5, 1-2). Paul Beattie scored 15 points. Carter Nordquist tallied 13 points and Braden Larsen added 12, each hitting two 3-pointers.
DAVIS 64, SYRACUSE 52
KAYSVILLE — Davis shot 15 of 24 from the field in the first half on the way to a 39-20 halftime lead, cruising to a home win over Syracuse.
Coleman Atwater totaled 16 points and five rebounds to lead Davis (11-5, 2-1 Region 1). Ike Morgan totaled 13 points, four assists and three steals, while JT Turley chipped in 11 points and four rebounds. Caleb Taylor added five points, four rebounds and four assists as the Darts assisted 17 of their 22 field goals.
Terik Hamblin led Syracuse (7-9, 0-3) with 15 points and seven rebounds. Joshua Godfrey added 10 points and six rebounds, and Skyler Orton also scored 10 points.
ROY 60, BOUNTIFUL 50
BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful (10-5, 4-2 Region 5) won the first and third periods 39-27, but Roy took the second and fourth quarters 33-11, locking down the Redhawks 18-6 in the final frame to claim a region win.
Bronson Belnap racked up 23 points, 10 steals, five assists and five rebounds for Roy (9-6, 4-2). Dahlen Pontius totaled 13 points and 10 rebounds, with five boards on the offensive glass, and Corben Schuffenhauer added nine points, three assists and three blocks.
OGDEN 70, UNION 61
OGDEN — Ogden trailed 36-32 at the half, then took control with an 18-5 third quarter in a home win over Union.
Nyiol Hauet led Ogden (12-5, 3-1 Region 13) with 22 points. Stockton Matriott added 16 points on one field goal and 14-of-16 from the foul line. Jesse Jones scored 14 points.
BOX ELDER 61, CLEARFIELD 53
BRIGHAM CITY — Clearfield led 14-9 after one quarter, then Box Elder took control with a 20-11 advantage in the second stanza for a region win.
Max Isaacson scored a game high 19 points for Box Elder (6-9, 54-1 Region 5). Elijah Kersey added 18 points and Carter Buchanan scored 11.
Chase McNeill led Clearfield (4-11, 1-5) with 14 points. Trace Hansen scored 12 points with three 3-pointers. Peyton Kotter tallied 11 points.

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville outscored Viewmont (4-11, 3-3 Region 5) 20-12 in the fourth quarter but couldn’t complete the comeback in a region home loss.
Nick Sebahar paced Bonneville (6-9, 2-4 Region 5) with 14 points. Zac Combe scored 13 points. Ben Tesch and Hayden Ashbridge each added 11 points.

LAYTON — Provo outscored Layton Christian 14-11 in the fourth quarter to end the Eagles’ 13-game winning streak.
Otavio Armani led Layton Christian (16-3, 3-1 Region 8) with 14 points and two 3-pointers. Tyrin Jones added 12 points and Alan Gballou scored 11.
MTN CREST 71, BEAR RIVER 58
HYRUM — Bear River trailed 21-12 after one quarter and could get no closer in a region loss at Mountain Crest.
Gehrig Marble led Bear River (12-3, 2-1 Region 11) with 19 points. Kyver Jensen scored 15 points, Brayden Ritter tallied 12 points and Jace Roberts added 10.

OGDEN — Ben Lomond led 49-47 after three quarters, only to see Grantsville come back for the region win.
