Prep basketball roundup: Syracuse, Davis girls stay atop Region 1 with victories

PLAIN CITY — Syracuse High girls basketball outscored Fremont 25-6 in the second quarter on the way to a 65-33 region road win Tuesday.

Cortnie Barker led all scorers with 15 points for Syracuse (13-3, 4-0 Region 1). Maylee Anderson tallied 11 points while Avery Sanders and Ariah Peterson each scored 10 points.

Maya Jensen paced Fremont (8-9, 2-2) with eight points. Abby Christensen and Syncere Langston each scored seven points.

DAVIS 63, FARMINGTON 24

FARMINGTON — Davis outscored Farmington 22-1 in the first quarter and led 36-11 at the half in a region road win.

T’Maea Eteauti scored a game-high 18 points with four 3-pointers for Davis (14-1, 3-1 Region 1). Kendra Kitchen tallied 10 points and Chloe Peery netted eight points with two treys.

Katie Myers led Farmington (1-14, 0-4) with six points. Brynn Ryan tallied five points while Kate Garff and Ava Goff each scored four.

LAYTON 61, WEBER 45

LAYTON — Layton outscored Weber 24-5 in the first quarter in a region win.

Oakley Homer led all scorers with 15 points and three 3-pointers for Layton (7-10, 2-2 Region 1). Avery Potter tallied 12 points and Taya Pace added 10, each hitting two treys.

Logyn Howell paced Weber (6-10, 1-3) with 14 points and four 3-pointers. Abby Sayer added nine points and Rylee Jugler scored eight.

MORGAN 55, BEN LOMOND 40

OGDEN — Morgan ran out to a 24-7 lead after one quarter in a region win at Ben Lomond.

Eva Birkeland led Morgan (6-11, 4-1 Region 13) with 13 points and four 3-pointers. Abby Titus scored 11 points. Leah Birkeland and Kaydence Wardell added nine points.

Jazzy Tinajero scored a game-high 16 points with two 3-pointers for Ben Lomond (6-11, 0-5). Dory Jenson netted nine points.‬

GRANTSVILLE 64, OGDEN 21

OGDEN — Grantsville outscored Ogden 17-3 in each of the first two quarters.

Ruth Larsen and Megan Beus each scored seven points for Ogden (5-12, 1-3 Region 13). Salote Tonge tallied five points and Tamara Jimenez added two points.

CYPRUS 64, BONNEVILLE 52

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville trailed 40-28 at the half in a home loss to Cyprus on Monday.

Sidnee Geerdes tallied a double-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds and three assists to lead Bonneville (4-11). Whitni Johnson scored 18 points with three 3-pointers.

BOYS BASKETBALL

DAVIS 65, FARMINGTON 58

FARMINGTON — Farmington led 12-7 after one quarter but Davis cashed in on turnovers and offensive rebounds to take control for a road win.

Coleman Atwater scored 23 points to lead Davis (12-5, 3-1 Region 1). Caleb Taylor added 11 points with three assists, Ike Morgan scored eight points, and Zach Fisher chipped in six points and eight rebounds.

Paul Beattie led Farmington (10-6, 1-3) with 20 points, two blocks and two steals. Jayden Haskell scored 14 points.

Davis outrebounded Farmington 5-0 on the offensive glass for a 7-0 advantage on second-chance points, and won the points-off-turnovers margin 14-9.

FREMONT 62, SYRACUSE 44

PLAIN CITY — Fremont built a 31-17 lead at halftime and used balanced scoring to put away Syracuse.

Ryan Furgeson led Fremont (10-7, 2-2 Region 1) with 12 points. Tyler Allen, Ryker Saunders and Easton Duft each added 10 points, Hunter Hansen scored eight points and Zach Masters added seven.

Terik Hamblin poured in 23 points for Syracuse (7-10, 0-4). Logan Goddard and Jake Hopkins each scored six points.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 67, TIMPANOGOS 41

LAYTON — Alan Gballou led all scorers with 20 points as Layton Christian grabbed a region win over Timpanogos.

Vuk Zarubica added 12 points and two 3-pointers for Layton Christian (17-3, 4-1 Region 8). Tyrin Jones and Luka Kulundzic Each scored eight points.
