State cheer: Morgan High sweeps all-girl 3A state championship competition; results

Morgan High School swept all categories to take the all-girl 3A state championship for competitive cheer in Utah.

Competitive cheer is in its second school year as a UHSAA-sanctioned sport. The state championship competitions in each classification were held in two categories, co-ed and all-girl, on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Utah Valley University.

In 3A all-girl, Morgan took first in every event (dance, cheer, show, and game time) to claim the overall state title.

The Trojans were the only squad from Northern Utah to finish higher than third overall in their respective competitions.

Below are the place results for area high schools.

6A COMPETITION

In co-ed, Weber placed fourth overall, taking second in dance, third in cheer, third in show and third in game time.

In all-girl, Davis finished third overall and Fremont took fifth.

Davis was second in show and fifth in cheer. Fremont took third in cheer, fourth in dance and fifth in show. Layton also placed in dance, cheer and show categories.

5A COMPETITION

In co-ed, Box Elder finished third overall, with a third-place finish in show.

Roy finished fourth overall, including taking second in cheer and in game time.

Bonneville was fifth overall, including a third-place finish in dance.

In all-girl, Northridge finished fifth overall.

3A COMPETITION

Morgan swept the all-girl categories for the overall state championship.

In co-ed, Ben Lomond finished fifth overall including second in dance, third in cheer and third in game time.

Ogden did not place in co-ed overall but finished fourth in game time and fifth in dance.
