Prep roundup: Schuffenhauer bicycle kick puts Roy boys soccer over Bonneville

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Corben Schuffenhauer scored the game-winner on a bicycle kick in the 77th minute to lift Roy High boys soccer to a 3-2 region road win Friday at Bonneville.

Danny Bugarin and Aiden Hart each scored in the first half for Roy (1-1, 1-1 Region 5).

Dennin Anderson scored once in each half for Bonneville (1-2, 1-2). Payton Rasley assisted one score.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 2, SYRACUSE 1 (2OT)

SYRACUSE — Arthur Cartaxo netted the golden goal in the second session of extra time to lift Layton Christian to a win at Syracuse.

Joaquim Diniz equalized in the second half for Layton Christian (3-0).

Bennett Thurgood scored on a Wyatt Affleck assist to give Syracuse (3-1) a 1-0 halftime lead.

OGDEN 8, GRANTSVILLE 0

OGDEN — Xavier Peregrina kept a clean sheet and Ogden led 7-0 at the half in a region win over Grantsville.

Taylor Pierce, Ben Points and Harry Hoskins each scored a brace for Ogden (5-2, 2-1 Region 13). Luis Velasco and Jace Rodriguez each netted once.

MORGAN 9, UNION 1

ROOSEVELT — Morgan ran out to a 7-0 halftime lead in a big region win at Union.

Jett Beckstrom netted a hat trick for Morgan (6-1, 4-0 Region 13). Trace Henderson and Cody Adams each scored a brace. Beau Johnson and Luke Francis scored one goal apiece.

FARMINGTON 2, PLEASANT GROVE 1

PLEASANT GROVE — Jackson Cheney and Ben Wright each scored in the first half as Farmington won at Pleasant Grove.

Kolson Helquist assisted one score for Farmington (4-0).

OGDEN 16, BEN LOMOND 1

OGDEN — Ogden scored 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning to trigger the run rule in a win over Ben Lomond.

Abby Thompson tripled and totaled four RBIs for Ogden (3-2, 1-1 Region 13). Jasee Anderson went 2 for 3 and drove in two. Isabella Rounkles and Adrianna Martinez each hit a single and drove in two. Thompson pitched a three-inning no-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks.

Brooklyn Richey and Ofa Arreguin reached base for Ben Lomond (0-5, 0-2).

MORGAN 16, UNION 2

ROOSEVELT — Lexi Hardman batted 3 for 5 with one RBI as Morgan trounced Union.

Joesi Kelly went 2 for 5 with a double and drove in three for Morgan (7-0, 2-0 Region 13). Kaiya Peterson and Gwen Rickard each hit an RBI triple. Callie Averett and Eva Birkeland each doubled and drove in three combined. Birkeland got the win with nine strikeouts and two hits over six innings.

ROY — Bryce Bagby batted 3 for 4 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored to lead Roy past Ogden.

Cameron Baty and Kaygen Tingey each had three hits for Roy (1-7), with Tingey driving in two. Nolan Gold earned the win with one hit and two strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings.

Kolton Rich batted 2 for 3 with one RBI for Ogden (5-6). Will Minkevitch hit a two-run double. Luke Bushell got the other Tigers hit.

BEAR RIVER 4, GREEN CANYON 2

NORTH LOGAN — Bear River scored two runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and complete the series sweep of Green Canyon.

Degan Rigby batted 2 for 2 with a solo home run for Bear River (7-3, 3-0 Region 11). Talon Summers hit a two-run homer. Brooks Drollinger went 2 for 3 and drove in one. Holden Potter pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and five hits.

MORGAN 13, DELTA 3

MORGAN — Luke Bauerle batted 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs as Morgan beat Delta in five innings.

Beck Sheffield hit two doubles and drove in four for Morgan (6-5). Benjamin Harden added two doubles and two RBIs. Brigham Spens hit a two-run double. Sheffield pitched a complete game with three hits and one strikeouts.

LAYTON 14, MARSHALL-CA 3

ANAHEIM, CA — Layton scored 10 runs in the third inning to beat Marshall (California) at the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

Eli Anderson batted 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for Layton (5-1). Tanner Neil went 4 for 4 with three doubles, one RBI and four runs scored. Fish Manning and Talon Hansen each had two hits and one RBI. Dallin Hall earned the win with seven hits and one strikeouts over four innings.

LAYTON 6, CVC-CA 4

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Layton scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie in a victory over Capistrano Valley Christian (California) at the Anaheim Lions Tournament on Thursday.

Fish Manning hit a two-run triple for Layton. Eli Anderson and Talon Hansen each hit an RBI single. Austin Pritchett got the win with two strikeouts and zero hits in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

SUMMIT 13, LAYTON 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Layton was held to two hits in a loss to Summit (California) at the Anaheim Lions Tournament on Wednesday.

Talon Hansen got both hits for Layton. Eli Anderson drew two walks and scored the Lancers’ lone run.

LAYTON — Roy won at Layton by set scores of 17-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-12.

Dahlen Pontius paced Roy (2-8) with nine kills and 12 digs. Ty Sandoval added 12 digs. Will Colburn dished out 14 assists while Kael Miller served three aces.

Layton (0-5) did not report stats.

SYRACUSE 2, PAYSON 1

PLEASANT GROVE — Syracuse downed Payson in the 5A/6A Challenge played at Pleasant Grove High. Set scores were 25-13, 30-32, 15-10.

Chase Barrett led Syracuse (5-3) with 16 kills and 14 digs. Davis Caldwell added 15 kills and one block. Caleb Roskelley dished out 33 assists and served three aces. Branson Hamblin added three aces and 14 digs.

SYRACUSE 2, JORDAN 0

PLEASANT GROVE — Syracuse swept Jordan in the 5A/6A Challenge at Pleasant Grove High: 25-12, 28-26.

Davis Caldwell tallied seven kills for Syracuse. Branson Hamblin added two aces and 10 digs. Joshua Godfrey had two blocks and Caleb Roskelley added 16 assists.

SYRACUSE 2, EAST 0

PLEASANT GROVE — Syracuse beat East in straight sets in the 5A/6A Challenge at Pleasant Grove High. Scores were 25-18, 25-12.

Gabe Meredith posted six kills for Syracuse. Caleb Roskelley dished 17 assists and served one ace. Joshua Godfrey had one block and Chase Barrett tallied seven digs.

MORGAN 3, JUAN DIEGO 0

DRAPER — Morgan won in straight sets Thursday at Juan Diego. Scores were 25-11, 25-9, 25-23.

Jack Komenda tallied five kills, four aces and five digs for Morgan (6-4). Madden Bell added five kills and two aces. Caleb Stephens dished out 14 assists and served six aces.

OGDEN 3, JUDGE MEM 0

SALT LAKE CITY — Ogden swept Judge Memorial on Thursday by scores of 25-20, 27-25, 25-11.

Adam Ballard had 10 kills and one block for Ogden (5-5). Rustin Reddish tallied six kills and five blocks. Aiden Holbrook added nine kills and served two aces.
