Boys volleyball playoffs: Ben Lomond drops home berth to Carbon in 3A playoff opener

Ben Lomond meets for a timeout during a region boys volleyball game at Ogden High on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Ogden.A long, difficult Ben Lomond boys volleyball campaign cast its final breath in the opening round of the 3A state playoffs on Saturday.
With a home berth, the No. 8 Scots claimed two sets of a 3-2 loss to No. 9 Carbon this weekend, as the season came to a close at 5-13 overall and 1-7 in 3A Division 1.
Spencer Sartor was a force for BL with 26 kills, 17 digs and 16 receptions. Robert Runyan commanded a team-high 40 assists, and Henry Richens led the unit with 19 digs.
With the win, Carbon will greet No. 1 Ogden High in the second round on Wednesday at UVU.
End of the line for Northridge
No. 3 Springville swept No. 24 Northridge 3-0 in the opening round of the 5A state playoffs on Saturday in Springville.
Boston Ferrin led the Knights, ending the season 8-19 overall, with 11 kills; Carson Shaffer and Preston Bell each tallied an ace.
The Red Devils will greet No. 8 Brighton in the second round on Wednesday at UVU.
Provo sweeps Bear River in 3
No. 11 Provo High brought No. 22 Bear River’s season to an end on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep in the first round of the 4A state playoffs on Saturday in Provo.
Hayden Woolley led the Bears, ending the season 7-18 overall, with eight kills; Tyler Christensen worked the floor with a team-high 15 assists.
The Bulldogs will meet No. 6 Pine View on Wednesday at UVU.
