Boys soccer playoffs: Three-way tie for Region 5 yields zero first-round byes

Box Elder celebrates a goal during a region boys soccer contest at Fremont High on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Fremont High School in Plain City.The raucous Region 5 boys soccer campaign ended in a three-way tie between Box Elder, Fremont and Northridge for the region title on Tuesday.
With a 1-0 win over Northridge (11-6, 9-3), Box Elder (11-6, 9-3) guaranteed itself at least a share of the region title alongside the Knights and Fremont (10-8, 9-3), which closed the season defeating Roy 5-0 at home.
Clearfield and Northridge, and rivals Fremont and West Field, will contest first-round rematches out of Region 5.
All three squads, though, will contest first-round matches in the state playoffs, according to the 6A, 5A and 4A brackets released by the UHSAA on Wednesday morning.
All first and second-round matches will be contested May 8-12 at home sites. All subsequent rounds are contested May 15-22 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. Full brackets and information are available at uhsaa.org.

5A Roy (3-14) and 4A Bear River (2-15) missed the cut in their respective classifications.
