Prep roundup: Bear River baseball, softball win playoff series; Friday results

Baseballs rest near Fremont High's field on May 3, 2024, in Plain City.GARLAND — No. 6 Bear River High baseball (20-7) dropped Game 2 to No. 11 Pine View (13-16), then won the rubber match to take its 4A second-round super regional series Friday.
Bear River advances to face No. 3 Timpanogos in bracket play at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Kearns High School.
Bear River 6, Pine View 2: In Game 3, Chipper Hawes hit a three-run home run. Jaxon Theurer hit a triple and Dallen Rice batted 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Ethan Higgs earned the win with seven hits, two runs and five strikeouts over six innings.
Pine View 9, Bear River 6: In Game 2, Pine View scored three runs in the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and outhit the Bears 11-6. Theurer hit a two-run home run and Hawes had a two-run triple. Dallin Bevan, Dallen Rice and Broxton Gardner each singled.
ROY 12, KEARNS 6
KEARNS — Julian Teran batted 3 for 5 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead No. 22 Roy to a win at No. 11 Kearns (17-9) in Game 1 of a 5A first-round playoff regional series.
Parker Skidmore batted 4 for 5 and drove in one. Skidmore also pitched a complete game with five hits, three earned runs and six strikeouts. Logan Vorwaller batted 3 for 5 with one RBI for Roy (11-15). Lincoln Baty drove in two on zero hits.
Game 2 of the series is 1 p.m. Saturday with Game 3, if necessary, immediately after.
SPRINGVILLE 9, CLEARFIELD 7
CLEARFIELD — No. 17 Springville (9-16) scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 8-5 lead and win Game 1 of a 5A first-round playoff regional series.
Brodie Deal batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for No. 16 Clearfield (12-14). Chase Marriott hit a three-run triple. Drew Bremer had two hits and Hank Campbell hit a single and drove in two.
Game 2 of the series is 1 p.m. Saturday with Game 3, if necessary, immediately after.

BEAR RIVER 15, TIMPANOGOS 4
GARLAND — No. 2 Bear River again run-ruled No. 15 Timpanogos (16-10) to take Game 2 and the 4A second-round super regional series 2-0 with a five-inning win Friday afternoon.
Alice Roche batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead Bear River (22-6) at the plate. Molly Canfield doubled and scored four runs from the leadoff spot. Marley Tisdol hit a grand slam. Brielle Gardiner got the win in the circle, striking out four and spreading one earned run and six hits across five innings.
Bear River advances to 4A’s double-elimination bracket play and will next play No. 7 Dixie at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Spanish Fork Softball Complex. Win or lose, the Bears will play again at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.
