Weber State's Koby McEwen (1), for the Big Sky/Big West team, shoots over Grand Canyon's Holland Woods (4), for the MWC/WAC team, at the 3X3U National Championship on Saturday, April 2, 2022, in New Orleans.

Outgoing Weber State senior guard Koby McEwen helped his team to four wins at the 3X3U National Championship in New Orleans this weekend.

The three-on-three tournament is comprised of 16 teams, with four players each who have used their college eligibility, representing pairs of geographically close conferences. McEwen played on the Big Sky/Big West team with Southern Utah guard John Knight III, Long Beach State guard Colin Slater and UC Irvine forward Collin Welp.

The team went 3-3 in pool play Friday and Saturday, as did the other three teams in their pool: MWC/WAC, Ivy/Patriot and Colonial/NEC.

Each of those wins netted the team $1,000 cash.

Sunday morning, the Big Sky/Big West team was bracketed into a first-round game against the ACC/Big South team and won 21-18, netting another $1,000.

Later in the morning, they faced off against the team from the Big East/Atlantic 10. McEwen opened the game with a 2-pointer and led his team in scoring with nine points. A few Slater drives helped them erase a deficit after Creighton’s Ryan Hawkins hit a pair of big 2-pointers.

With Big East/A10 leading 20-19, a Knight strip on the perimeter resulted in a ball out of bounds with 1.2 seconds left.

Taking the ball out top, McEwen was forced to attempt a contested, deep, side-step 2-pointer at the buzzer and missed.

McEwen was the sixth former Weber State player to participate, and WSU has had representation in all four years the event has been staged since 2018. Ryan Richardson, Brekkot Chapman, Jerrick Harding, Cody John and Isiah Brown are previous selections.

Starting at $4.32/week.
