Weber State football makes CWU opener official, 2023 schedule complete
Weber State football made official its 2023 season opener against Central Washington by announcing the matchup Monday after CWU posted the game to its online schedule last week.
The Division II school from Ellensburg, Washington, will face Weber State for the first time ever and will travel to Ogden on Thursday, Aug. 31. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff and will usher in the first season with Mickey Mental as head coach. CWU went 6-3 in the Lone Star Conference and lost its lone nonconference game last season to eventual Division II champion Ferris State.
WSU will open at home against a Division II opponent for the second consecutive season and should do so on a new field flanked by a new stadium grandstand to the east, which is currently being renovated.
After CWU, the Wildcats face a three-week gauntlet by traveling for road games to Northern Iowa and Utah, followed by their Big Sky opener against Montana State in Ogden.
The 2023 schedule also sees Idaho play in Ogden for the first time since 1995 (hence, the first time since it rejoined the Big Sky in 2018) and takes the Wildcats to play Northern Colorado on the road for the first time since 2015.
Weber State wraps up spring camp with its annual spring game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
