Ogden police roll out digital Tip-A-Cop upgrade for anonymous reports
OGDEN — Residents have a new way of utilizing a tool meant to aid law enforcement in combating drug crime.
Last week, the Ogden Police Department announced on its Facebook page that residents will be able to use the Tip-A-Cop service digitally.
“Starting (May 3), you can report any suspected illegal use, storage, or sale of narcotics in our community through an online form,” the Facebook post said. “This tool will allow you to provide detailed information anonymously and securely, and the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force will investigate each report thoroughly.”
The Facebook post also includes a QR code for people to use. Tip-A-Cop’s phone number, 1-800-TIP-A-COP, is still available.
Lt. William Farr told the Standard-Examiner that the police department is happy to advance its means of outreach.
“The online portion of Tip-A-Cop was the natural progression of technology, allowing an individual another means to report a concern,” he said. “At Ogden Police Department, we are constantly looking for additional technology and means to assist our community members.”
However, residents are reminded that the Tip-A-Cop feed isn’t monitored 24/7 and, in the case of an immediate emergency, they should still call 911.
