Farmington wins 6A state drill title; Layton boys wrestling dominates 6A divisional meet
Farmington High School swept its way to the 6A championship at the state drill meet held Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at Utah Valley University.
Farmington took first in all three drill categories (military, dance, show) to claim the overall trophy.
Layton finished third overall, including a third-place mark in dance. Davis took fourth overall, including a third-place mark in military.
In 5A, Viewmont won the military and show categories to claim the overall state championship. Bountiful took second in all three categories for an overall second-place finish.
In 3A, Morgan won a first-place mark in the show category for an overall finish of fifth place.
LAYTON WINS 6A DIVISIONAL
Layton High boys wrestling turned in a strong showing Saturday at Syracuse High School to put the 6A classification on notice for a potential repeat state title, taking first in the 6A Divisional A meet — totaling 355.5 points to second-place Corner Canyon’s 272.5.
Fremont finished third, Syracuse fifth and Weber eighth.
Layton will send 24 wrestlers to the state championship tournament, scheduled for Feb. 16-17 at Utah Valley University.
Layton had six individual winners Saturday: Aidan Bastian (113 pounds), Geronimo Rivera (126), Noah Bull (144), Gavin Regis (150), Kaden Bennie (175) and Takoa Byrd (285).
Fremont claimed two individual winners: Logan Hancey (165) and Ridge Lindley (215).
Davis placed third in the B Divisional, with Austin Ellis (132) winning his weight class.
In 5A, Box Elder boys ran away with their divisional meet, topping second-place Wasatch 501-365.
