Prep basketball roundup: Davis girls clinch Region 1 outright; Layton boys finish unbeaten

KAYSVILLE — Kendra Kitchen scored 16 points to lead Davis High girls basketball as the Darts clinched the Region 1 title outright with a 68-30 win over Weber on Friday night.

Avery Dain escorted 14 points with four 3-pointers for Davis (20-1, 9-1 Region 1). T’Maea Eteuati added 10 points and two treys. The Darts made 12 3-pointers on the night.

Abby Sayer paced Weber (6-17, 1-9) with nine points and two 3-pointers. Avery Shupe and Logyn Howell each scored eight points. The Warriors finished in fifth place.

FREMONT 61, LAYTON 48

LAYTON — Fremont led 22-21 at the half then pulled away after the break for a region win at Layton

Abby Christensen scored a game-high 16 points with four 3-pointers for Fremont (12-10, 6-3 Region 1). Syncere Langston netted 15 points and Ama Herrick tallied nine points. The Silverwolves finish tied with Syracuse for second place in Region 1.

Avery Porter led Layton (9-13, 4-5) with nine points on three 3-pointers. Roxy Casper tallied eight points while Oakley Homer and Taya Pace each scored six. The Lancers claim the fourth spot in Region 1.

BOX ELDER 45, ROY 44

BRIGHAM CITY — Kaydence Barber scored the winning basket on an offensive rebound following an inbound play that started under Box Elder’s own basket with 7.4 seconds left. But the clock did not start when the inbound play did and, conferring after the play, the referee crew put 1.3 seconds on the clock — but Roy could not advance the ball before time expired.

Olivia Godfrey led all scorers with 16 points for Box Elder (18-5, 11-3 Region 5). Maddie Thurgood added eight points while Kamri Andersen and Jocelyn Vranes each scored six. The Bees finish second in Region 5 behind unbeaten Bountiful.

Ariana Strain paced Roy (7-16, 3-11) with 15 points on three 3-pointers. Nicole Williams 13 points and Rihanna Jones scored seven. The Royals finished in seventh place.

CLEARFIELD 65, VIEWMONT 42

CLEARFIELD — Izzy Wyaskett led all scorers with 18 points as Clearfield bested Viewmont (12-11, 7-7 Region 5) in region play.

De La O tallied 11 points with two 3-pointers for Clearfield (16-6, 9-5). Xiyah Yarbrough and Nevea Cordova each scored eight points. The Falcons finished third in Region 5. The Vikings take fourth.

NORTHRIDGE 51, BONNEVILLE 44

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville led 36-33 after three quarters, then Northridge came roaring back with a 18-8 final frame for a region road win.

Izzy Kap led Northridge (12-11, 7-7 Region 5) with 16 points. Kaylee Hess netted 14 points with two 3-pointers and Karlee Mayfield scored 11 points. The Knights placed fifth in Region 5.

Baya Jimenez led all scores with 17 points for Bonneville (4-19, 0-14). Tyler Moss added 12 points with two 3-pointers. Baylee Andreasen tallied 10 points with two treys. The Lakers finished in eighth place.

JUAB 72, MORGAN 58

NEPHI — No. 11 Morgan went into the fourth quarter tied 48-48, then was outscored 24-10 in the final frame in a 3A second-round loss at No. 6 Juab (15-9).

‬Abby Titus led Morgan with 16 points. Eva Birkeland scored 11 points and Kaydence Wardell tallied 10. The Trojans end the year with a 10-13 record.

RICHFIELD 61, BEN LOMOND 30

RICHFIELD — Jazzy Tinajero scored 14 points as No. 18 Ben Lomond (7-17) fell at No. 2 Richfield (20-4) in the 3A second round.

GREEN CANYON 54, BEAR RIVER 41

GARLAND — Aubree Fry scored 12 points with two 3-pointers in a home loss to Green Canyon Thursday.

Brooklyn Capener, Brooklynn Pond and Saydee Pebley each scored six points for Bear River (7-16, 2-8 Region 11). The Bears finished in fifth place in Region 11.

LAYTON 75, FREMONT 62

LAYTON — Layton ran out to a 25-6 first-quarter lead to finish Region 1 play undefeated with a win over Fremont.

Dave Katoa led Layton (22-1, 10-0 Region 1) with 18 points and two 3-pointers. Mekhi Martin netted 15 points with three treys. Cade Tidwell added 14 points with four 3-pointers and KJ Miller scored 10.

Hunter Hansen led Fremont (12-11, 4-6) with 18 points. Easton Duft and Tyler Allen each scored 11 points. Ryan Furgeson and Zach Masters added eight points apiece. The Silverwolves finished fifth in Region 1.

DAVIS 58, WEBER 50

KAYSVILLE — Coleman Atwater had 19 points on three 3-pointers and dished out three assists to lead Davis to a region win over Weber.

Zach Fisher added 14 points with two treys for Davis (16-7, 7-3 Region 1), who finishes second in Region 1. Tradon Bessinger totaled 13 points and five rebounds. Ike Morgan added seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Hunter Schenck paced Weber (15-8, 5-5) with 19 points. Jordan Oberholtzer scored seven points with two 3-pointers. The Warriors finished third in region play.

ROY 65, BOX ELDER 63

BRIGHAM CITY — Bronson Belnap hit a jumper with 1.8 seconds left to lift Roy to a region win at Box Elder.

Belnap paced Roy (13-10, 6-8 Region 5) with 19 points. Colby Frokjer netted 15 points with two 3-pointers. Dahlen Pontius scored 14 points. The Royals finished fifth in Region 5.

Max Isaacson led all scorers with 23 points and hauled in 18 rebounds for Box Elder (9-14, 8-6). Trevor Wilkinson and Elijah Kersey each scored 15 points, with Wilkinson hitting three 3-pointers. The Bees finished in third place.

BONNEVILLE 54, NORTHRIDGE 49

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Hayden Ashbridge scored 17 points with four 3-pointers to lead Bonneville past Northridge in region play.

Ben Tesch added 15 points and two treys for Bonneville (8-15, 4-10 Region 5), which finished seventh in Region 5. Nick Sebehar netted 11 points.

Peyton Perkins paced Northridge (10-13, 9-5) with 12 points. De’Qoune Kennedy added 11 points and Bentley Whitear netted nine. The Knights finished second in Region 5.
