OGDEN — The Ogden Whoopie Girls baseball team finished a home-and-home sweep of the Idaho Falls Spud Queens on Saturday night, claiming the second game of the series 7-3 at Lindquist Field.

The game was the second annual women’s baseball tribute game hosted by the Ogden Raptors. Publicly announced donations Saturday went north of $7,000, collected for Utah’s Live On suicide prevention organization.

Kelsee Bishop (Plain City), Mateah Davidson (West Point) and Marisa Bowman (Lehi) pitched for Ogden, a team of adult players matched up against a youth team in the Spud Queens — who posted a more competitive game Saturday than the first in Idaho Falls, which was a 15-8 Ogden win.

Idaho Falls went up 1-0 in the first. Ogden answered in the bottom half when Bowman hit an RBI triple to score Bishop, then scored herself on a single from Misty Heagney (Hooper).

In the third, Krista Jensen (Mesa, Arizona) doubled in Bowman, then scored on a single from Madelaine Johansson (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) to put Ogden ahead 4-1.

In the fourth, Davidson and Amy Cole (Syracuse) scored on an error and Lorel Palmer (Ogden) singled in Bowman for a 7-1 lead.

Idaho Falls scored a pair in the sixth on two wild pitches.

Money raised came from pledges of various amounts and through the sale of items like bats and baseballs signed by the teams.

Teams and families mingled on the field after the game, as several groups tripped south from Idaho Falls to take in the contest to join Ogden-area locals in attendance.
