OGDEN — Officials at McKay-Dee Hospital announced Sunday the release of Ogden Police Officer Kasey Burrell.

Family Counseling Service seeks more clients

OGDEN — At a time when similar agencies are cutting back on the services they offer, the Family Counseling Service is putting out a plea to the community for more clients.

The agency’s board of directors has set a goal to serve 10 percent more clients in 2012 than it did in 2011.

But officials know that in order to do that, they’ll have to overcome a stigma that mental health services often have with people who could use the help.

“It’s hard to admit there’s a problem you don’t know how to fix,” Center Clinical Director Curt Watson said.

OPD Officer Burrell released from hospital

OGDEN -- Officials at McKay-Dee Hospital announced Sunday the release of Ogden Police Officer Kasey Burrell.

He is the last of five officers injured in a Jan. 4 shooting to be released.

A statement from the Burrell family also released by the hospital reads: "We appreciate the love and support shown to our family through this difficult time."

The statement also asks media representatives to give them time and to honor the family's wishes for privacy.

Interfaith week, month coming to local area

Area residents interested in religious understanding likely will be interested in events starting next week in Ogden and Salt Lake City.

The two series of events will coincide with United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week, which begins Wednesday.

The events also commemorate the 10th year since leaders and representatives from various religions came together in celebration during the 2002 Olympics.

Genealogy techies to swap secrets at RootsTech Conference

SALT LAKE CITY -- The public is invited to register for next week's RootsTech Conference, sponsored by FamilySearch, at the Salt Lake City Convention Center.

A family history and technology conference, the Thursday through Saturday event is designed to bring developers and users of technology together in one venue.

More than 3,000 participants have signed up for the conference. Representatives from Google+, Instructure, Ancestry.com, FindmyPast.com (the United Kingdom's largest genealogy service provider, debuting in America) and FamilySearch are participating in this year's conference.

Welfare facility for LDS Church expands in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY -- A huge, technology-driven facility, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' new Bishops' Central Storehouse exists for those in need of life's most basic necessities.

Officials unveiled the facility Thursday. The storehouse has 535,966 square feet of space and room for 65,000 pallets of food and supplies.

Top of Utah names mothers of the year

OGDEN — The Ogden/Weber Chapter of American Mothers, Inc. recently announced the Ogden City and Weber County mothers of the year.

They are Cheryl Collett Ferrin, of Eden, who is Weber County’s mother of the year, and Alice Berg Smith of Ogden, who is Ogden’s mother of the year.

The two will be honored at a reception and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ogden Golf and Country Club, 4197 Washington Boulevard in South Ogden.

Smith, 59, is married to David Leon Smith.
