HOOPER -- The Weber County Sheriff said Thursday that some missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stopped a car burglary by asking the burglar to stop.

In a statement released Thursday morning, the department said the incident happened at an LDS church at 4555 W. 4000 South.

"Nine LDS missionaries came out of the church and found a young white male stealing the stereo out of their car.

"The missionaries asked the suspect to please re-install the stereo, which he did. The suspect had a conversation and a short cry with the missionaries. They took his picture. He then left in a vehicle. The missionaries got the license plate.

"CSI got prints off the stereo," the department said. "We contacted the registered owner to the vehicle (the suspect was driving) and it was discovered the vehicle was stolen."

Later Wednesday night, "the suspect was located at a different church in Hooper. The stolen vehicle had broken down on him in the lot so he decided to get high and wait to be found. Ogden Police Department responded and took custody of him in reference to the stolen vehicle."
