President Obama's anti-gun record is well known and available to the public. He can pose firing an over/under shotgun all he wants but it is all political showmanship. He shouldn't impress anyone, especially gun owners. He has purposely surrounded himself with people who are not friendly to the 2nd Amendment. Be assured, this president and his administration will infringe on that right at every opportunity through presidential executive orders, legislation, and packing the Supreme Court and lower Federal courts.
Please understand that: "A void act cannot be legally consistent with a valid one. An unconstitutional law cannot operate to supersede any existing valid law. Indeed, in so far as a statute runs counter to the fundamental law of the land, it is superseded, thereby, no one is bound to obey an unconstitutional law and no courts are bound to enforce it." (Re: Sixteenth American Jurisprudence, Second Section, Pg. 177) Americans: Open your eyes and minds, and don't be afraid to investigate and speak out. Our priority should be to preserve our constitutional rights and keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and irresponsibly persons. Background checks and gun safety training must be a priority; however, and I emphasize this, we don't want gun registration. We, as law-abiding gun owners, fear, as has happened in recent world history, governments have confiscated guns. The sole object must only be one's background. Our personal effects and papers are our own business and none of the governments.
There are well over 10,000 gun laws on the books nationwide, but not all are enforced. The state of California is finally enforcing a long-standing law and taking guns from felons. It is about time all states do the same. There's a lot of bad anti-gun laws on the books that should be amended or removed all together. The National rifle Association has advocated strict enforcement of laws that go to the core reasons of crime. Many laws are not enforced for lack of funding and personnel, so it's claimed. All too often progressives (liberals) want more restrictive laws that would infringe on 2nd Amendment rights. The NRA's Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) was founded in 1973. It has and will continue to identify and fight legislation not consistent with the 2nd Amendment; truly, a robust voice for the rights of all Americans.
The Hunter Safety Program, founded in 1949, is active in all fifty states and territories and in several provinces in Canada. The NRA has always supported safe ethical use of firearms, hunting, and sound conservation practices. The NRA is staffed by experts in shooting sports and the legal profession. The NRA is the principal organization of well over seven million members, and all other gun-owning Americans. Its membership is growing every day. It represents the interests of shooters, collectors, and folks who just want to protect themselves.
Historically, an assemblage of Army National Guard officers came together in New York. The NRA was incorporated under a Charter by the State of New York on November 1871. It was patterned after the British National Rifle Association. Its purpose: To promote military-style and International long-range shooting and to boost national defense and rifle practice. General Ambrose Burnside was nominated and elected to be the NRA's first President. The NRA set out to promote construction of suitable firing ranges starting at Creedmore, Long Island, New York, Sea Girt, New Jersey, and at Camp Perry, Ohio - the latter being the largest such shooting facility in the world. Civilians also were welcomed and took an active part in various shooting events. The NRA became a driving force in marksmanship, the development of superior arms and ammunition, and the formation of an effective cadre of trained personnel. During the National Trophy Matches current military-style rifles were used, as is to this day. Competition shooting held at the National level was founded in 1903 by an act of Congress. NRA-affiliated clubs were organized throughout America.
Thousands of civilians and soldiers, in-between and during this nations wars, were trained. The National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice (NBPRP) was established by an act of Congress in 1903. The Director of Civilian Marksmanship was established in 1903. They supported the Nation Matches & all DCM-affiliated clubs throughout America. No thanks to the well-known anti-gun Senator Ted Kennedy, the Department of Defense support of the NBPRP, DCM and the National Matches was withdrawn in 1996. This lack of support by our government was taken up by the State of Ohio, the Civilian Marksmanship Program, and the National Rifle Association. Current shooting events include high-power rifle and pistol competitions, small bore rifle, and heavy in police combat matches, skeet and trap, muzzle-loading, air rifle, silhouette, and national postal matches. I personally had the honor to take part in the 1980 and 1981 high-power rifle trophy matches' wherein we fired the M-14 and M-16 service rifles. In 1981, I captained the Utah State team including sheepherding our junior shooters, who by the way did a fantastic job. We didn't win any trophies but all had a lot of fun. What an experience! All of these programs reach millions of Americans and at no cost to the taxpayer. The NRA is heavily committed to our junior shooters. All phases of shooting are very demanding - requiring intense mental and physical endurance, and attention to detail. Many of us get great satisfaction firing military-style rifles including the AR-15 in all its configurations; but, it's just another semi-automatic. It is accurate enough for hunting small game, target practice, or plinking at cans. When fine-tuned, it's a great paper puncher at State and National Matches.
As for those large-capacity magazines, they have been around for a long time. You don't have to reload so often while hunting or plinking, are easy to carry in the field and only have to carry a few. A semi-auto rifle allows for a quick follow-up shot on a rabbit. Semi-automatics don't cause crime; criminals and other undesirables do. John M. Browning invented some fine semi-automatic firearms over one hundred years ago. They are still around and used today. His designs have influenced firearms design throughout the world. Demonize the bad guys, not law-abiding gun owners and their guns. Nothing can be more important to a free people that that they be skilled in the use of arms and have a good knowledge of history.
The first true assault rifle probably originated with a Russian named V. G. Fedorov in 1916: a full-automatic rifle equipped with a detachable 25-round magazine. During World War II, the German firm Schmeisser produced the MP43 and MP44 "Maschinen Karabiners" (machine carbines). These assault rifles were the ancestors of the well known and prolific Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle. They have been manufactured in the tens of millions and in many countries. An assault rifle by definition is a selective-fire semi-automatic or full-automatic shoulder-fired rifle. To fire from one mode to another, one needs only to flip a lever, or push a button. The military establishment defined what an assault rifle was almost 100 years ago. The NRA only placed emphasis on the meaning. Politicians and the inflammatory media have put their own definition on certain types of guns. Your favorite pump or semi-automatic shotgun or .22 could be considered an assault weapon. Where would it end? This could be a very slippery slope. These people don't like guns or the people who own them. Some actually fear gun-owners. They have never handled a gun or been in the military. Many are lawyers who have never spent an hour in any court and instead have become professional politicians.
Privacy and doctor/patient concerns may checkmate effective record-keeping at a national data bank. The mentally ill would continue to squeeze through the cracks, and no one can guarantee out-patients will take their medications. If a family member has a drinking problem, mental problem, or otherwise irresponsible, get a safe and lock your guns up, or get rid of them. See a licensed FFL dealer and sell them. Many years ago a lot of mental institutions were closed and mental patients thrown out on the streets with reliance placed only on out-patient care. If a patient didn't take his/her med's, their situation became problematic to themselves and others, including involvement with the legal system. Jails and the prison systems aren't the best financed or manned professionally to deal with the mentally ill. And, look at all the drug-addiction. Society is fed up. It's time to get these people, who pose a clear and dangerous threat, off the streets. There needs to be a serious conversation about mental illness now. There are millions who need help. We are supposedly the richest nation around, give billions to other nations, yet can't or won't, help our own people. Hey, something's wrong.
As has been painfully shown, gun-free zones are an open invitation to attack. This fact has not been fully learned: physical security of schools is vitally important. However, student/teacher interaction is most critical if information can be acted upon before an attack. Arming specific school personnel would be an option. Police presence, even a parked police car might deter an attacker. Background checks should be an integral part of gun shows. A licensed FFL Dealer could be contracted with by a show committee to furnish additional help to do the background checks for a nominal charge to the seller/buyer. Again, this arrangement must not be a procedure for backdoor gun registration. In conclusion, it's about time Americans look at the country they live in, not what politicians and social engineers want us to be. We live in a country of permissiveness. This phenomenon has been gradual, almost imperceptible over time.
The professional social thinkers, schemers, politicians, legal minds, university professors, and all facets of the media and the entertainment industry, have had a free hand with the public and legislative branches of government. Moral values and standards have broken down. Sex, crime, violent video games, violent TV movies, and gory entertainment are the norm. Money is the driving force. The flannel-mouthed media, legal professionals, and politicians are all working to push their narrow interests in the context of protecting their 1st Amendment rights.
Our president upholds homosexuality as normal activity. Drug use is all too pervasive. So, why all the violence, you ask? The party in power wants larger and more intrusive government; its objective: Power and control. We will experience a kaleidoscope of the unthinkable if these dangerous trends are not reversed. Americans must have the will to defend their cherished institutions and liberty. We must be prepared in material, citizen numbers, spirit, confidence, and ability. We can't continue to kick all those cans down the road. Americans have a constitutional right to own and bear arms; the criminal does not, yet has guns and will get guns by whatever means available to them. In theory, if the federal government was successful confiscating all legally-owed firearms, eventually all guns, including criminal guns, will be out of the hands of the people. Criminal guns might decline through attrition. But, the reality is: Criminals would always have guns; there would be a huge black market in them. The rest will disappear in grave yards and elsewhere, as historically happened in Mexico between revolutions. It has been estimated that well over 300 million firearms are in America; the vast majority legally-owned. President Obama is undoubtedly the best gun salesman in recent history, because Americans have been alerted. I don't think Americans will sit idly by and allow such a horrid scenario as described above to ever take place.
Now, this is pretty strong language but look at what is running our federal government. The worst result: Americans will be forever pawns of a tyrannical government, and a parasitic criminal society. A police state will then exist-our liberty and our freedoms lost.
George Washington stated: "A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." This is true today as it was during the making of this nation.
Surely, if we don't think about the future, eventually we won't have one, or to put it another way, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to relive it." (SANTAYANA)
