Everyone agrees that learning how to read greatly impacts the student's ability to excel not only in school but in life. But, learning to read is only part of the story. Learning to love to read is the critical part of this equation. Loving to read opens so many doors for young minds. It turns kids on to adventure, science, exploration and just plain enjoyment in a hectic world.
We have spent the last year as reading tutor volunteers at Bonneville Elementary and the reading excitement created by the media specialist, Mrs. Jamison had been electrifying. I am sure it is no different in the other schools in the Ogden District. We know school districts struggle with money issues. It is an on-going fact of life, but, often dollars have become the criteria for change and not the needed reality of what is best for the child.
