UVU student crowned Miss Utah; Miss Davis County second runner-up

SALE LAKE CITY — A Utah Valley University student from Tooele has been crowned Miss Utah 2011, and Miss Davis County is the second runner-up.

Miss Utah Valley University Danica Olsen became the 75th Miss Utah on Saturday night in Salt Lake City.

A field of 50 contestants from across the state was narrowed to 10 at the beginning of the final night of competition.

Olsen, a junior at UVU who’s seeking a bachelor’s degree in speech communication, won a $10,000 scholarship, a new car and housing for a year.

She will promote her platform, “Prescription Drug Addiction Awareness,” and serve as a spokeswoman for the Salt Lake City-based Children’s Miracle Network.

Miss Pioneer Valley McKenna Wheeler was first runner-up.

Miss Davis County Ciera Pekarcik, who attended Davis High School and studied education at UVU, was second runner-up with her “Find Yourself Through Service” campaign.
