(UNEDITED)The rhetoric regarding Ogden as an outdoor recreation destination has tapered off recently in the media (or so it seems) but, sadly, the problems haven't. Ogden's foothills are in jeapordy. The number of graded dirt and asphalt roads have increased more in 3 months than in my 30-plus years recreating in our fantastic foothills. Trails are being worked, reworked and needlessly over-worked to accomodate what appears to be development interests only.
I am part of the outdoor recreation demographic. I climb, bike, hike, ski, fish, and I enjoy being in our mountains on a daily basis. I live here for the mountains. That being said, I disagree with the sales pitch that I hear from those trying to promote Ogden in this manner. I disagree because the evidence points to the development of our foothills and mountains rather than natural enjoyment of them. If political and developmental interests truly understood the value of outdoor mountain recreation then they would be working to preserve this natural beauty and our lifestyle adjacent to it instead of building over it.

Then...
Once they have built up the mountain, people will start whining about deer in their yards. Like in Bountiful. People move into their environment, then want to have them erradicated. What needs to be erradicated is Godfrey's camp. There was never a question he would skirt around the council. It was only a matter of time.
Godfrey's Plans for the Bench
People should also look at the destruction at the Strong's Canyon trailhead at the top of 36th. At the trail head is a letter on city letterhead saying this is for water improvements. This is a lie. It is for UNAUTHORIZED water infrastructure that the city council has not voted for - for Godfrey's hotel and condo project.
Godfrey's outdoor vision is a sham cover for developers who are licking their chops for our open space and trails on the bench.
