Bennett touts conservative record in final debate

SALT LAKE CITY -- GOP U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett is touting his conservative credentials and his ability to shape legislation in Washington on the final day before the Republican state convention.

Bennett is seeking a fourth term, but is facing seven challengers from within his own party. Republican delegates will choose the party's nominee on Saturday.

Bennett debated his top three opponents, attorney Mike Lee, businessman Tim Bridgewater and conservative activist Cherilyn Eagar, on KNRS radio Friday.

Bennett says charges by his opponents that he is not a conservative are false, noting he's been endorsed by the National Rifle Association and has high ratings from other conservative groups.

He also says he can change Washington more than his opponents because of his seniority.
