HUNTSVILLE — Car enthusiasts from near and far will be descending upon Snowbasin Resort later this month.
In a press release, the resort announced that its second annual Blues & Brews Car Show is set for Aug. 9-10.
According to Brooks Roe, brand manager for Snowbasin, the car show arose from a few trends that staff were noticing at the resort.
“Last year, we realized there was a really big community up here for car shows,” he told the Standard-Examiner. “We would come up on a Thursday morning and there would be 15 Corvettes or something parked in our parking lot with these guys just sitting around and chatting, having coffee or breakfast. We realized that our road up to Snowbasin was a pretty popular road for these people to come drive and for these car groups to get together and come enjoy the outdoors and take a nice drive. We realized, ‘Let’s throw an event for these people. Let’s bring them up here. Let’s rally them and see if they want to come show off their cars.'”
He said the first event attracted around 60-70 entries for a single-day event.
This year, the show is expanding.
“This year, we decided to kind of split it up into two days and do a Saturday and Sunday event,” Roe said. “We decided to split it up because we saw a demand for all of those vehicles.”
The theme for Saturday will be “Classic Cars” and Sunday will be “Modern Cars.” It also will coincide with the weekend’s usual Blues & Brews concerts both days. Cars will be arranged in the Base area. There will be contests and prizes.
Roe said they had around 60 entries as of Friday morning and are open to more, expecting many to come in the final week.
He added that organizers will apply several lessons learned during their first show in building this year’s event.
“We almost overcomplicated it last year with the way we parked the vehicles,” he said. “We tried to strategically do it and make it all pretty and it just ended up being a really big pain. This year, we’re just like, ‘Get them in and park them in a big circle and let it flow naturally.’ That was some of the feedback we got from car show participants last year — they felt their car was parked too tight and people couldn’t really see it.”
Roe said they also made sure to order dash plaques for participants early this year.
“That was a very last-minute add-on because we didn’t really know about it last year, being our first car show,” he said. “This year, that was the first thing we ordered.”
He added that there is a lot of hope for the event’s future growth.
“It was one of our best events that we did last year,” he said. “That’s why we were really keen on doing it again and really growing this thing. We’re hoping that, in the future, we can bring it to our main parking lot and just have that thing packed for the weekend and have hundreds of cars up here. But that takes time.”
