Bountiful's ambulance up in smoke

BOUNTIFUL -- Firefighters at South Davis Metro Fire didn't have to go far to fight a fire that started in their own fire station Monday night.

Fire Chief Jim Rampton said the firefighters were upstairs in the day room when they heard a horn going off in an ambulance below them around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Rampton said a fire had started in the engine of the ambulance and had shorted out the horn.

He said firefighters went downstairs and put out the fire immediately.

But he said there was a lot of damage to the ambulance.

Rampton said another fire agency will be conducting an investigation of the incident.

When asked if the firefighters had a quick response to the situation, Rampton said, "When you call in your own fire, you get there quickly."
