OGDEN -- After just one year in the city, Wayfair LLC is expanding its Ogden warehouse and looking to hire more than 100 employees before the year is out.
One of the largest online retailers of home furnishings in the U.S., Wayfair sells and ships home products, including items such as furniture, cookware and lighting.
Formerly known as CSN stores, the Boston-based company opened its Western region customer care and distribution center in Ogden on May 23, 2011.
The Wayfair building is located at 550 S. Depot Drive in Business Depot Ogden.
When Wayfair initially opened its doors in Ogden, 200 employees were hired and a 50,000 square-foot warehouse was built.
Currently, construction is under way to add another 50,000 square feet to the warehouse, with an option to expand it to a total of 150,000 square feet.
Al Gonzalez, site manager of the Ogden location, said the current warehouse holds 4,000 products, any of which can be shipped anywhere in the country within two days.
When the warehouse is enlarged, it will be able to hold and ship 18,000 different products.
The new warehouse space means new jobs, Gonzalez said.
"We are hoping to bring in 100 more employees between now and November," he said. "And that's a nice thing to say when all you hear about is doom and gloom with the economy."
Shelly Carter, a recruiter for Wayfair, said most of the positions will be for customer service and sales consultants.
Steve Fishburn, Ogden's business development manager, said Wayfair has exceeded the city's expectations since opening in Ogden one year ago.
"Our challenge is to facilitate the additional growth in the future," he said. "Since they've come to Ogden, they've done nothing but grow and they've infused millions of dollars into our local economy. We hope they continue with that trend."
