OGDEN -- The city's Community and Economic Development Department is undergoing a significant staffing reorganization, Mayor Matthew Godfrey said Thursday.
Richard McConkie, deputy director of Community and Economic Development, has been promoted to replace former director Scott Waterfall who resigned earlier this month, said Godfrey.
McConkie, who joined the city in 1983 is currently paid $95,568 and will be paid about $100,000 a year in his new job, said Godfrey. Waterfall's salary was $107,544.
McConkie's promotion will require approval by the city council.
McConkie said he is looking forward to the new challenge. "I'm honored to have a continuing role within the department," he said. "The department has a strong group of professionals committed to the community. I'm pleased to be part of that team."
Tom Christopulos, the city's business development manager, has been promoted to replace McConkie as deputy director.
Christopulos was hired by the city in 2007 and is currently paid $88,002 a year. His salary will increase to the low $90,000 range, said Godfrey.
The last piece of the Community and Economic Development Department puzzle includes the hiring of Steve Fishburn of Farr West as business development manager.
His family founded Fishburn World Travel which along with other partners acquired Morris Travel in 1985, said McConkie. Fishburn and his partners sold the business in 1995.
Fishburn established the Heritage Ranch and Stallion Station in Farr West, an equestrian breeding, boarding and training facility, said McConkie. He has also developed residential and commercial projects in the Farr West area.
Fishburn said he is looking forward to working as the city's business development manager.
McConkie said he's pleased that Fishburn has been hired and was recruited because of his business experience. "He has an impressive entrepreneurial background," said McConkie. "He will be a real asset to the city. He will play a high profile role in the city's business recruitment efforts."
McConkie will be responsible for overseeing the Community and Economic Development Department while Christopulos and Fishburn will handle day-to-day business recruitment efforts, said Godfrey.
