Fishing Report August 12
Flaming Gorge

Kokanee fishing continues to be hot. Anglers are trolling from the pipeline north and finding fish starting to group. Try using Rocky Mountain Tackle dodgers, with an ultraviolet squid a couple of feet behind it. Florescent colors seem to work the best. Also try Apex lures, Tasmanian devils, Cripplures, or small, brightly colored spoons.

Now is the time to fish Uintas' lakes and beat the heat
A cold shiver ran up my spine as we started our hike on one of the many trailheads of the mountain range, seeking seclusion and exotic fish from one of many off-the-beaten-path lakes. I don't know how much of the shiver came from the morning frost on this July day or the anticipation of what lay ahead.

Garden City a great place for ATVers to go for a hamburger
The northern section of the Shoshone ATV Trail is one of the prettiest parts of the trail system. I was interested in this trail because of its proximity to Garden City on beautiful Bear Lake. There is something unique about being able to go into a town for food, fuel and lodging on an ATV. The goal was to find a way to legally get from the Shoshone Trail to Garden City.

Phalaropes feast on Great Salt Lake's bounty during migration
Great Salt Lake is full of life. The superabundance of brine flies billows in small clouds low over the shoreline, in specks on the water and in swarms around birds that feast on the excess.

RV campers meet climbersin City of Rocks
BURLEY, Idaho --Used to be that if you wanted to camp among the beautiful and fascinating rocks at the City of Rocks in southern Idaho, all you had was primitive camping.

Fishing report

The best ...Pineview

Muskie fishing is good. With the high water levels, fish the flooded brush. Try throwing jointed X rap Rapalas, swim baits, Mepps Musky Killers or spinner baits. From shore try fishing off of Cemetery Point or Browning Point. Bass fishing is good. Try throwing Maniac 4-inch salt sticks, or Maniac Cutter bugs in crawdad or green pumpkin or tube jigs.

Aftermath: One runner's view of Wasatch Back Relay
Surprisingly, my stomach forgave me. Unfortunately my hips and legs have yet to decide if they are willing to forgive and forget. After 16 miles in less than 24 hours, I guess I can't blame them for yelling at me when I attempt stairs.
