Syracuse woman accused of having sex with teens

SYRACUSE -- Police have arrested a 40-year-old women accused of having sex with three teenage boys.

Kimberlee Arigot of Syracuse was arrested after police received a tip on Nov. 19 that she had sent nude photos to the boys via cell phone text message.

Syracuse Police Lt. Tracy Jensen said Arigot knew the boys through friends of her daughter, but he didn't "know the particulars as far as each kids' relationship with her." The incidents all took place within the past year, he said.

Arigot was arrested and booked into the Davis County Jail on two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and one count of dealing harmful material to a minor. Jensen said all three charges are felonies.

She posted bail and was released shortly after she was arrested. The Davis County Attorney's office is investigating the case for applicable criminal charges.

Jensen said Arigot was never in a position of trust.

Blue Lou is "right on," sorry Jule.

There is no way to tell of any "damage" done to the boys until way in the future - do they end up with healthy relationships or terrible relationships? Only time will tell. Therefore....

In my opinion, stop focusing on the boys & start focusing on her poor husband & kids. I can't even imagine; their lives must feel awful right now. This isn't the sort of situation where things were bad at home and she felt compelled to stray, this is (on her part) pure craziness. Those pushed to the brink of affairs by their spouses actions (or inactions) are usually searching for an emotional connection they can't get within their marriage, but that is CERTAINLY not the case here. It seems more like a midlife crisis and she was just trying to have fun & be young again. I'm sure the kids don't understand at all, and her husband probably doesn't either. If that were me trying to be young & have fun, I would've bought some new clothes or something else sane. To each, his own????

Jule,
I'm am completely at a loss to find anywhere in my response where I attacked you or your sex life. Perhaps you have a different definition of "attack" than I do. I'll list all of the places where I referred to you specifically:
1)"...you certainly have a way of putting words into my mouth. You completely missed my point." You DID miss my point, as your subsequent response shows, and you attributed things to me that I didn't say.
2) "I’ll bet that you broke the law yesterday at some point because you probably exceeded the posted speed limit at least once." While I don't know for sure that you exceeded the speed limit, I was attempting to make the point that average, ordinary people manage to break laws, too. I don't see this as an attack on you.
3) "If you read all of the comments on this story, you can see that there is a marked difference in the responses by most of the men vs. most of the women." No attack here, either. I'm merely asking you to look at something and notice what I'm saying.
4) "...if the roles had been reversed, as you point out," Still no attack. I'm simply restating something you'd previously said.
5) "If you can’t acknowledge that simple difference in the rate that sexual maturity develops in men and women, than you are in for a rocky road in your relationship as you and your significant other age." Is this what you're referring to? It's a biological fact that males and females mature at a different rate. Even LDS counselors acknowledge this fact. If you see this as an "attack", then you are less intelligent and more reactive than you claim to be.

Regarding your other points:
My argument is NOT a strawman in regards to the topic at hand. You insist that these "boys", as you call them, have been "damaged" by their "association with this woman". I believe that they have NOT. Since neither of us can prove our points, we'll have to agree to disagree. I understand your point but I disagree. You don't understand MY point, so you call it a strawman.

And, since I don't believe that these young men have been "harmed" by what happened, I DO think that it's silly to mete out punishment to the woman that is HARSHER than if she'd given them drugs. In my world, drugs are worse thatn sex. In your world, if I'm interpreting you correctly (I don't want to be accused of "attacking" you), drugs and sex are equally bad.

And even though you opened the door on the topic of what constitutes a healthy life, you'll pardon me if I refrain from commenting further about that, because I don't want you to think that I'm attacking your sex life.

Bottom line, I believe I made valid points, I stick by them, and I'm sorry that you're so thin skinned that you can't talk about sex with feeling "attacked".

That aside, I'll respond to what you said in your last post.

Again with the straw man, BL. Sentences for sexual predators and drug dealers are in no way connected, nor should they be. If anyone believes that these boys aren't damaged by their association with this woman, you have more issues than I can help. Let's call it what it is: pedophilia. She's a pedophile and she took advantage of them knowing full well that boys that age are ill-equipped to deal with what she was offering them. Their damage will have little to do with their respective religious beliefs and more to do with their perception of women, what constitutes a healthy sex life, and potential emotional bonds they might make in the future.

Also, as a side note, I'm not bothered by Blue Lou's personal attack on me or my sex life, but he may want to consider rephrasing in other debates. Other people are less intelligent and more reactive than I am and might get upset.

By: Blue Lou @ 12/06/2008, 1:34 PM

Well, Jule, you certainly have a way of putting words into my mouth. You completely missed my point. That’s alright, I suppose. This is an emotional issue and emotions have a way of clouding people’s perceptions.

My POINT was that the conversation needs to be about whether or not there was harm done by this woman’s actions. Some people, in these comments, seem to feel that she’s bad simply because she broke the law, as if that’s the end of the argument. What I SAID is that we all break laws at some time or another. If all anyone can say in their argument is to repeat over and over, “She broke the law. She broke the law,” they are adding little to the conversation. I’ll bet that you broke the law yesterday at some point because you probably exceeded the posted speed limit at least once.

Now, if we quit mouthing the law and order rhetoric, then we can talk about whether teen-age boys and teen-age girls are psychologically more prepared for sex with anyone, let alone an “older” person, whether we send mixed messages to 17 year-olds because sometimes we treat them like young men and sometimes we treat them like boys, and what the appropriate punishment under the law should be in this situation.

So, rather than put words into my mouth, please read what I’m about to say carefully.
First, let me say that I believe in the equality of the sexes, in many regards. I believe in equal pay for equal work. I believe that wives have the same rights as husbands in a marriage. I believe that women are just as intelligent, talented, and capable as men.

That said, I DO believe that there are psychological and cultural differences between men and women. I DO believe that males and females mature at different rates. I DO believe that in our culture, men inherently have more power than women. I’m NOT saying that’s good or bad. I’m saying that’s the reality of life in 21st Century America.

If you read all of the comments on this story, you can see that there is a marked difference in the responses by most of the men vs. most of the women. That’s the reality of the sexual attitudes of your peers who read the Standard-Examiner. Taking that into consideration, I don’t think that these young men were taken advantage of by a “predator”. Morally, the only guilt these guys feel depends on their individual religious beliefs. If they’ve been raised to believe that pre-marital sex is a no-no, then they are going to feel the same level of guilt as they would if they’d had sex with a girl in their age group. Believe me, they probably don’t feel taken advantage of. However, if the roles had been reversed, as you point out, and it was a mature man and 17 year-old women, the feelings would be completely different for all of the parties involved. That’s not a legally imposed double standard. It’s a biological fact. If you can’t acknowledge that simple difference in the rate that sexual maturity develops in men and women, than you are in for a rocky road in your relationship as you and your significant other age.

As for what’s going to happen to this woman? Some type of punishment will be meted out to her and she’ll have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. That should be punishment enough for all of you who are screaming for her head. You can sleep well at night knowing that this woman will be punished more harshly, under our current laws, than the guy who sells drugs to your kids.

By: Jule @ 12/06/2008, 8:40 AM

So, Blue Lou, you have no problem with this woman's sexual predation? Regardless of whether this woman broke the rules or laws, she is a sexual predator. There should be more consequences for her than a slap on the wrist.

Enlistment age during the Civil War and laws in Maine are pointless strawman arguments. Yes, there are silly laws on the books, but can we really consider laws against this type of behavior silly? Let's turn the tables. What if this were a 50 year old man and his kid's 17 year old female friends. Sick, right? So let's stop high fiving the teen boys for getting into a cougar's panties and say let her go. She broke several laws and should be held accountable.

If you think laws preventing adults from taking advantage of teens are pointless, by all means lobby on the Hill to get them changed. Good luck convincing anyone else that being a sexual predator is ok.

Jake and others,

Your mantra that anything that's illegal is bad is really tiresome. There are many silly and weird laws in the U.S. In Portland, Maine it's ILLEGAL to tickle a girl under the chin with a feather duster.

The actions of the woman in Syracuse MAY or MAY NOT be detrimental to the young men, her family, her community, or her psyche, but to say it's BAD simply because there's a law on the books prohibiing it is asinine.

So, you can argue that these young men (who are old enough to have fought in the Civil War if they'd lived in that time period) were harmed in some way if you'd like, but knock off the "it's against the law" rhetoric.

For the record, given the circumstances that we know regarding this woman and these guys (that they weren't harmed any more than if they'd had sex with another teenager, that she wasn't in a position of authority over them, and that she has to face the consequences of her family's hurt feelings) I'd say she needs to perform some kind of community service since some type of punishment has to be meted out by the court in order to comply with "the law".

If I'm ever in Portland, Maine, I've gotta try tickling a girl with a feather duster just to see if I can get away with it. I wonder if they sell t-shirts that say, "I broke the law in Portland, ME and all I got was this t-shirt".

I just want to say that after reading these comments. I am seriously SCARED for our society. The fact that so many people see nothing wrong with the whole situation makes me sick. I can't believe what our society has been reduced too. Since when do we quit protecting our kids and since when do we consider it a good thing to violate the law and the sanctity of marriage and family? Let alone the respect we should have for the law! IT IS ILLEGAL TO HAVE SEX WITH A MINOR, IT DOESN'T MATTER IF HE "WANTS IT"! Wait and see what happens to our society if we keep accepting things like this.

TEENS ARE NOT CHILDREN.

Take your perverted Victorian childhood fetish back to the 1800's and stop bringing fascism to the USA under the guise of fighting a plague of pedophilia.

Humans exist because teenagers make good mothers and fathers. They are young fertile and virile for a good reason.

That reason is not to fund the lawyer's and old hag's bank accounts.

No, Barbara, for heaven's sake, instead! You might have missed to point of it all.Indeed there might be plenty of men around to sleep with, but how do you prevail upon a hot woman in heat that sex has a more rewarding quality about it when it's done with a mature adult male? Women, for the most part, are quite willing to go to any length to be boned by inanimate objects or juveniles. Reasons: two of those. 1)These two groups don't pass judgements on anything or anybody; 2) Society has conditioned women to behave like predators, trappers posing as lovers... the result: when a woman comes into heat, she just finds herself an easy victim in a juvenile or a piece of plastic, rather than subjecting herself to the psycho-analysis of a mature man who might readily discern what she is up to. In time, if society should sanction sex with a minor to such an extent where the practice is no longer worth while, women will be doing it with trained four legged animals. Come to think of it, women may have already started it.

Damn, is that what a woman has to do these days?

Sure, they are in really great shape from all those sports, have no skanky sexual hangups or std's, and no power trips, so she can finally have sex the way she likes it...probably not anything like your average porno...and none of that relationship drama of older men...

...but damn woman, repress your sexuality better, like the rest of us! Don't you realize that all of our problems as a species are sexual?

And it's better this way! Wait, I forgot why again...dammit...is it that vengeful god thing again?

I can never believe the people who will defend things like this as not a crime. Those boys were under the age of consent. It is statutory rape. One thing everyone needs to remember, while those boys will willingly go along with her, it will still scar them. Most male sexual offenders were molested at some point in their youth, many by females such as this one. So while some of you may think there's nothing wrong with things like this, it does still cause problems for a decent amount of these boys as they grow older.

It was immature of her to put her family into a situation like this, but she didn't rape anyone (I don't give a crap about what the law says. These 17 year old boys don't feel wrong about this kind of thing, and it wont hurt their psyche). Again, I say, "grow up, women."
