OGDEN -- The suspect in Wednesday night's shooting that left one police officer dead and five others wounded was identified today as Matthew David Stewart, 37.
Stewart has a limited criminal record, Ogden police officials said a news conference this morning.
The officer who was killed, Jared Francom, was a member of the Ogden Police Department since 2005.
Stewart is under guard in a local hospital. Police officials did not describe his injuries.
The shootings occurred as 12 members of the Weber-Morgan Strike Force were serving a warrant at a home on Jackson Avenue.
The officers knocked and, when they did not receive an answer, entered the house, and were fired on.
The other officers who were injured were identified as Shawn Grogan, Kasey Burrell and Michael Rounkles, all of the Ogden Police Department; Sgt. Nate Hutchinson, Weber County Sheriff's Office; and Jason VanderWarf, Roy Police Department.
Authorities said the conditions of the other five officers range from serious to critical.
The Weber-Morgan Strike Force is a multi-agency unit made up of officers from the Weber County Sheriff's Office, local police departments and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
