OGDEN — The sister-in-law of Matthew David Stewart went to bat for the accused cop-killer following a hearing in 2nd District Court in Ogden on Monday.
Erna Stewart described her brother-in-law as someone who is fond of music, the outdoors, weightlifting, holistic healing and massage.
"The brother I know is sweet, compassionate and kind of quirky," Erma said.
Erma also noted that Stewart "loves anything to do with Arnold Schwarzenegger."
Erna said the main reason she was speaking out was to announce a rally for Stewart that will take place at noon, May 18 on the front steps of the Ogden Municipal Building, 2549 Washington Blvd.
Erna said several speakers will address the need to put an end to "home invasion raids by the police."
Erna said the rally is not intended to be disrespectful to the police because they are in harms way during the raids as well.
After the speakers, the group will cross Washington Boulevard and head to the county attorney’s office where another presentation will be held.
Erna said she is aligned with the "Keep the Peace" organization" formed by local activist Jesse Fruhwirth.
The group is demanding the Weber County Attorney’s office release information regarding the Stewart case.
