Name: Susan Van Hooser
Age: 66
Occupation: Retired Educator
Family: Married with three children
Hobbies: Gardening, historic preservation
1. Name some of the qualifications you possess that makes you the best choice to represent your city?
-I have been an active volunteer in the community for thirty years.
-I served on the City Council and have gone through the budget process.
-My 16 years on Ogden City's Landmarks Commission has given me a unique perspective on issues facing historic districts and the ramifications of making tough choices.
2. What political ideals and philosophies guide your decision-making process?
My philosophy, first of all, has always been to do what is best for the city as a whole. I also believe that citizen input is critical in the decision making process, which in turn promotes open government.
3. What is the most important issue facing your city?
I feel there are really three issues facing our cities at the present time and they are all equal as far as I am concerned. And they are:
-The anger toward and mistrust of our City government.
-The threat to our open space along the Mt. Ogden Park corridor.
-The safety and well being of our citizens.
4. Name some qualities that you possess that make you a good team worker and able to bring consensus among city leaders.
-My thirty years in the classroom have taught me to listen to others, hear what they are saying and remain calm during periods of stress.
-My organizational skills have been invaluable recently. Examples include:
The recent Candidates Forum at the ATC.
-As president of the Weber County Heritage Foundation I was responsible for the organization of the Annual House Tour, which raised $10,000 toward the Ogden High School Restoration; completion of the restoration of the lime kiln in Ogden Canyon, and the printing of the book "The Grand Celebration" by Judy Anderson
-As a member of the City's Landmarks Commission for 16 years, I have insight into Historic preservation issues that will be coming to the Council as we move toward the completion of 25th St.
5. What do you think will be some major issues your city will face a generation from now?
The issues we will be facing a generation from now will be those that affect and limit growth. Our crumbling infrastructure needs to be brought up to today's standards. Water is going to be the limiting factor in any future growth in our City and we need to begin now to encourage water conservation. Encouraging the development of mass transit alternatives such as a street car that would make accessibility to the downtown easier and revitalize inner City neighborhoods should be a priority.

It's hard to argue for
It's hard to argue for someone who does not understand the issues. Poor Ole. The following video exposes the lack of willingness to openly communicate. This candidates behavior is shocking. Watch this video and see for yourself.

Ogden business and May are both frauds artiists
The fraud artists, now representing themselves as "Ogdenbusiness" are better at editing dishonest attack videos than they are at writing copy for "May" and now "Ogdenbusiness".
They really are bush league and integrity poor people, like most that hang in the inner Godfreyite crowd.
In fact they are so lame that the "Ogdenbusinness" disingenuous blather is sounding suspiciously close to the silly dialogue of "May".
They are about as incompetent at their dirty games tricks as Godfrey is at business, which is saying a whole lot.
By the way, Mrs. VanHooser is not my candidate, I have only met her a couple of times in the last three years and I have no part in her campaign.
I do however think she has a whole lot more integrity, dignity and intelligence than the whole Godfreyite gang combined.
In fact, I have absolutley no involvement with any candidate in this council race. I do however believe that someone must stand up and point out the venile corruption of those surrounding Phipps, Hains and mayor Godfrey and how in their sleezyness they are trying to steal this coming election with their lies, innuendoes and dirty tricks.
It is hard to argue the facts
It is hard to argue the facts of what Mrs. Van Hooser says. Poor Ole. Think,if you must, that Channel 17 was behind this. I am flattered. I appreciate that you feel my work is so professional. It must be hard for you to see your candidate caught so openly in disingenious dialouge. For those who are curious...here is the video again...

Name the business
I suspect that OgdenBusiness is a Realtor/Developer business. They are running scared since they know that the candidates that will be elected this November will not let Mayor Godfrey and his corrupt circle continue their underhanded and unethical city business sweetheart deals. This OgdenBusiness is just another name for Geiger-Glassman-Blaine Carl-May Smith and the various names they have posted under.
And for those interested in facts...
And for those interested in facts, here, again, are the facts about the video's dishonesty:
Take for example the opening claim, which references Mrs.
Van Hooser's statement that Council members can not, under the law,
attend meetings to discuss city affairs without someone being present
to take minutes, i.e. to create a record of the meeting. Whoever made
the video claims there is no such law. But there is. It is the Utah
Open and Public Meetings Act (Utah Code Title 52, Chapter 4).
Everyone of the subsequent clips on the video, carefully edited to
omit the contest of Ms. Van Hooser's statements, is similiary dishonest
or deceptive. For example, Ms. Van Hooser said she is "not sure that
Ogden City needs to be
the financier of everything that happens at the Junction.†The video
then twists this statement into this: “the candidate says Ogden City
financed
everything at the Junction.†That's very different from what she in
fact said. And of course the video never bothers to mention that the
largest financier of the Junction is Ogden City which has
ponied up $40 million of the public's money. So far. And is paying $750,000 to service the construction bonds, which the Mayor assured the City Council some five years ago that the city would never have to pay. Ms. Van Hooser's concerns about how much the city is shouldering of the Junction's debt are well founded and should concern every Ogden taxpayer. Though the video won't tell you that.
All of the segments of the video are similarly dishonest or
distorted. But then, this is the kind of dishonest and deceptive
campaigning we have come to expect from the Godfrey gaggle and former
Lift Ogden crowd. Having no substantive arguments to make that they
can back with fact and evidence, they resort to dishonesty and
deception.
I notice the maker the video chose to remain anonymous. Perhaps
there is still a chance for him, since he apparently of shame, and is evidently ashamed of the video he produced. We can only hope....
Doubly shocking
Mr. Flatlander
Another doubly shocking aspect of this disingenuous video is that it was produced on the Ogden Tax payer's dime!
I have it from a very realiable source that the only video camera at the debate from which this highly manipulated video is cut from was the city owned Channel 17, the mayor's very own publicly financed propaganda channel.
It is truly amazing how morally bankrupt the Godfrey regime is, and this cleverly edited attack video is a prime example of the depths they will stoop to in order to get their hand picked stooges on the city council.
This candidate does not
This candidate does not openly communicate. You will be shocked by the following video. Listen to her say there is no retail downtown and that no golf course is "really profitable."

The repeated posting of the same content is really just turning into spam, now.
Only thing shocking about the video is its dishonesty
Sorry, OB, but the only thing shocking about that video is its dishonesty.
