A fresh face with an enthusiastic outlook. That describes Ogden City Council candidate Patrick A. Dean.
Dean is challenging incumbent Councilman Doug Stephens for the Municipal Ward 3 seat. The Standard-Examiner endorses Dean.
Dean, 51, facilities director at the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College, is the consummate Ogdenite. He grew up in the city and has raised his own children here. He likes to camp, boat and play golf. He has been active in recreational and youth sports. He is currently president of the Ben Lomond Youth Sports Association and the Ben Lomond High Boosters Board. He served in the U.S. Air Force and has blue collar background, which includes being a contractor, draftsman and a sewer collection system operator. He has served on the Ogden-Weber Community Action Agency and local Head Start boards.
He is not only the kind of community-minded person you want serving on your city council, he brings along a vast array of practical experience. He can provide helpful insight on issues dealing with sewer, roads and other infrastructure that are important in managing a city. These are not the areas of expertise you normally see in council candidates.
He's also not afraid to think outside the box. He was the only candidate in interviews with the newspaper's editorial board to suggest leasing out Mount Ogden Golf Course to an operator as a means to solving the course's drain on the city's resources.
Dean won't be afraid to speak out on issues and make his position clear. He's a forceful voice that would be a welcome addition to the council.
