Don't be fooled twice, water rates are on the rise! Forget that Ogden city charges the most expensive rates compared to all nearby cities. Forget that Ogden city is selling water cheaper to other cities than to its residents. Forget that 13,000 households are currently being over-charged for culinary water (If you don't get secondary water, you are in this unlucky group). Forget that 12,000 households are being under-charged for that same water (If you receive secondary water, you are in this lucky group).
Forget the group that conducted the flawed water rate study of 2007 has been hired to conduct the new water rate study of 2012. Forget that before Mayor Godfrey left office he said a water study was not necessary, and a waste of time. Forget that most of the city council's - and mayor's - voting base is largely made up of the 12,000 households receiving the cheaper rates. Forget that the new water rate study of 2012 has already been extended to June, even though groups are meeting every two weeks until then. Forget that Ogden city enjoys a positive cash flow for capitol projects. Forget that only approximately 361 people responded to a survey that has been on-line since January 2012 (a measly 1.4 percent response rate) and of that small group, 81 percent said the rates are unfair. Forget that only about six people spoke up (of the maybe 20 that showed up) against the high water rates at the first water rate public meeting, - held March 6, 2012. But don't forget this, unless the 13,000 households that are currently being over-charged for culinary water speak up in the next few months, and rally to the public meetings, the water rates are going up! Don't forget this the next time you go to the voting booth.
