SALT LAKE CITY -- A year ago, the Utah Blaze outlasted the Cleveland Gladiators on the road to finish the 2011 Arena Football League season with a .500 record.
This time around, Utah hosts Cleveland (7-9) in its final home regular-season game of the 2012 season with a brighter perspective.
The Blaze beat the Arizona Rattlers 62-49 a week ago to improve to 11-5 on the season. The victory extended Utah's current streak to a franchise-record five straight wins and Utah has already secured a playoff berth.
"So far, the season has been very solid," said coach Ron James. "We're moving in the right direction and we're excited that we've qualified for the playoffs. But we still have goals ahead of us and two games left to play."
Utah previously reached the postseason in each of its first three seasons in the AFL (2006-08).
The field of National Conference contenders has been solidified. Seeding is still to be determined, but the Blaze will compete with San Antonio Talons, Arizona (12-4) and San Jose (11-6) for a chance to represent the conference in ArenaBowl XXV. Utah finishes the the regular season on the road against Philadelphia (13-3).
