SALT LAKE CITY -- Republican Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is seeking donations as high as $50,000 to attend his annual fundraising gala.
The gala is planned for Sept. 18 at the Grand America Hotel.
A $50,000 donation earns donors the title of presenting sponsor, seats for 30 guests and a special reception with Herbert and Lt. Gov. Greg Bell. Individual tickets are being sold to the event for $500. Herbert's gala raised about $1 million last year.
Utah is one of a handful of states that doesn't limit who or how much someone can donate to a political campaign. Herbert is opposed to campaign contribution limits, saying they prevent people who aren't rich from running for office.
Herbert rival Peter Corroon favors contribution limits, but isn't abiding by any this year.
