SALT LAKE CITY -- State public safety officials have named Brent Halladay as the Utah State Fire Marshal.
Halladay has been with the State Fire Marshal's Office since 1981 and has served as the assistant fire marshal since 1990. Halladay replaces Fire Marshal Ron Morris, who retired.
In a statement, public safety Commissioner D. Lance Davenport called Halladay a "proven leader" and a great example to Utah firefighters.
Halladay began his career in the fire service with the city of Provo in 1971. He holds a bachelor's degree in law enforcement and criminal justice from Brigham Young University and is certified as a police officer, firefighter and fire investigator.
Halladay is also credited with authoring several administrative rules and legislative bills for the improvement of fire safety and fire rescue in Utah.
